God is a Farmer and we are His farm hands

This passage talks about planting and watering. Having done some farming, I can say that preparing the ground is an additional important step. God will use each of us in the process of preparing the ground, planting, watering, and finally harvesting a “crop” of new believers. It doesn't matter which role we play in a given person's salvation. What matters is obeying and knowing that God makes the seed grow. Everyone we meet will be in a different place, needing the ground broken up before the seed is planted, to receiving water, to becoming fully ripe for the harvest. Each step is equally important in spreading the Gospel. International students, many of whom grew up far from an understanding of the Gospel, require a lot of ground preparation. This “breaking up of the ground” may be as simple as an encouraging word or a smile, an invitation to a barbecue or a baseball game. Whatever you are already doing, invite an international student along and watch as the ground is prepared for an eventual great harvest!
