Backyard Missions
Go into all the world …. from your own backyard!
The nations are literally living just down the street as international students. It has never been easier before to show the love of Jesus to the world!
“You built a bridge from your heart to mine, and Jesus walked across it!”– International Student
“We wanted our children to get a better perspective of the world around them so we jumped at the chance to host 2 international students.” – Host parent
“I've been here for 4 years and you are the first American friend I've made. I'm so happy!” – Saudi girl
“I kept asking myself why these people were helping me and being so nice to me. Then I heard the Gospel from a preacher and I understood. I received Jesus!” – Chinese Communist party member
Today we have a unique opportunity in the U.S. There are over 700,000 international students studying in our country. Many of those students will return to their homes and hold some influence or leadership positions. Even more, most of them are from countries or cultures that in some way limit the spread of the Gospel by traditional missions methods. This is no accident. Nearly every time you read about how we are to treat widows and orphans in the Bible, God includes foreigners in that very same list. Zec 7:10 Do not oppress widows, orphans, foreigners, and the poor... This verse exhorts us to treat them well. The following verse encourages us to celebrate with them.Deut 16:11 ... Celebrate with your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, the Levites from your towns, and the foreigners, orphans, and widows who live among you.Jesus tells us to “go and make disciples of all the nations.” Not all of us have the desire or are able to go overseas as missionaries. However, God has brought the nations to our doorstep. You can be involved in making disciples of all nations right here in your own backyard! Contact us if you would like to be involved. There are opportunities available to show the love of Christ to a foreign student in as little as one night a month.
